In all of my days of being a gamer, I never thought this day would come. A true remake of a video game I hold near and dear to my heart.
On Tuesday, June 9th, 2026 (6/9/2026...nice...), we got confirmation of a heavily rumored remake of the beloved Zelda classic: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time was announced. To say I never thought this day would come would the understatement of the century. I never once thought in all of my years of being an avid gamers, we would see this day coming and yet, here it is, in an action packed Summer Games Fest Nintendo Direct. Many of the games that have been announced have major implications on player's spending and their time: Final Fantasy VII Revelation, Gears of War: E-Day, and God of War Loufey. These are just a few of many that are expected to be major hits on their respected releases.
But none of them hold the same weight as Ocarina of Time. This is a game that has dominated the Metacritic score race for decades, still holding the top spot as and is still considered to be one of the greatest games of all time.
Not only did they announce the project to many hyped Zelda fans, but Nintendo has the gall to release the game this year. While we don't have any specific date, 2026 appears at the end of the trailer. Unfortunately, we have no real idea what the Remake will be like gameplay-wise as Nintendo has not shown anything more than a quick look at what the game's graphics and story will look like. What we do know is that the game's story is seemingly the same. The Kokiri return as a race, of which each citizen has their own fairy, but only one boy that does not. Link, being that boy without a fairy, who's destiny is tied to the fate of the Hyrule Kingdom.
Looking through the trailer, it's evident that the art style picks up the stylized realistic look at that Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask championed back in the Nintendo 64 days. The details are lush with a cloth depicting the Kokiri race and the Great Deku Tree as the centerpiece with Link sleeping being depicted as well.
By the end of the video, we see Link shown, sleeping away as the lazy little bit unbeknownst about his past and the grand adventure that awaits him. The camera pans down to Link's hand showing the Triforce of courage shine on his hand before wrapping up the trailer and 2026 being shown at the end of the trailer.
Some things to note: Link's tunic has has a drastic change to it. It looks like there's some leather surrounding his torso and the tunic itself has some very detailed cloth textures. A noticeable shot shows him without wearing the hood and is actually off to the side of his bed and Link is barefoot as well.
It remains to be seen if Link will have the option to remove equipment in this style, but it's noticeable nonetheless that Nintendo would show this in particular. Anything I say here is just purely speculation.
For now we just have to take solace that they've been working on this game for a while now and we will see where it goes. The expectation is that Nintendo will have a Nintendo Direct dedicated to this game rather soon. My prediction will be in July or early August. For now, however, we will have wait on confirmation about more in Ocarina of Time when it becomes available.
