This comes after the not-so-surprising news of the entire trilogy and side games will be coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 during the latest Nintendo Direct event on Tuesday.
While this may sting current Switch owners, I do believe this is the right course of action. As when the game initially launched in back in the early part of 2022, fans were not too happy about it. Citing issues with the game having issues connecting to server to play on the Cloud, it was the only definitive way to play the games on the Switch console at the time. One user from the NeoGAF forum even went so far to say that Cloud gaming is a "scam". So, I think it's pretty easy to determine that the game didn't do particularly well when the game first launch.
While the game will be shutting down, current owners of the game will still have a full year to play this version, as the servers don't shut down until June 9, 2027. At the very least, if you currently own it, you will have time to play it even well after the release of the Switch 2 version in October.

Additionally, if you own these versions of the games (and bless your heart if you do), then you will be treated to a discount of the Switch 2 version of the Kingdom Hearts I-III collection that will be releasing later this year.
You can preorder the game on the Switch 2 now as well.
Kingdom Hearts I-III Collection is also confirmed to be released on the Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5; will release on October 8th, 2026.
